Roberto Abbondanza
A Roman baritone, Roberto Abbondanza trained with Isabel Gentile and
furthered his studies at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and at the
Musikhochschule in Cologne with Hartmut Höll. He was a finalist at the
"Toti Dal Monte" Competition in Treviso, winner at the "Laboratorio Lirico"
in Alessandria and at the "L'Accademia Barocca"Competition in Rome. Active
in the Baroque repertoire, he collaborated with Fabio Biondi and Europa
Galante (Scarlatti's Caino, Diapason d'or) and with Rinaldo
Alessandrini and Concerto Italiano (Il combattimento di Tancredi e
Clorinda, Choc de l'année 1999). He has performed in major
theatres in Italy (La Scala, Maggio Musicale, Rome Opera, La Fenice) and
internationally (Paris, Vienna, Tokyo, New York). An appreciated interpreter
of the contemporary repertoire, he has premiered works by Colasanti,
Bacalov, Battistelli, Glass, Morricone, Dallapiccola and Henze, receiving
five Abbiati Awards (2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007).
